The château was built by Franciscan nuns in 1872 and used as an orphanage, and the vineyards were planted to provide income for the estate.Jean-Ralph de Butler bought the property in 1985 and set about modernising the production facilities, planting new vines and building a new winery. His son Arnaud inherited the estate in 1999.
