ABOUT THE WINERY
Château Crabitey is located in the town of Portes, a leading wine-growing region in the Graves district of Bordeaux.
The château was built in 1872 by Franciscan nuns who used it as an orphanage. The nuns planted vineyards to provide income for the children in their care. After being in the hands of the church for over 100 years, the estate was entrusted to Jean-Ralph de Butler. He restructured and expanded the vineyards and also built a new winery.
The vineyards in Graves are influenced by the cooling flow of the Garonne River to the east, and the deep gravelly soils give the wines minerality and complexity.
